CAMP QUALITY CELEBRATES 25 YEARS!

25 YEARS OF BRINGING SMILES TO CHILDRENS FACES

Camp Quality NZ will this year mark 25 years since organising its first summer camp in New Zealand. The first camp was held in West Auckland in January 1985 for 22 children from throughout the country.  Camp Quality NZ has since grown to provide annual summer camps in five locations for about 300 children each year.

Chairman Jim Grierson says Camp Quality NZ is looking forward to celebrating 25 years with a number of events to be held across the country from March through to November 2010.

Plans so far include a family gala day in Palmerston North, a mini-camp and ball in the Waikato/Bay of Plenty and a 25th Anniversary Dinner in Christchurch, timed for October.

“We are looking forward to making our 25th anniversary a year to remember,” says Jim.

Camp Quality 25th Anniversary - John Andrew Mazda – Charity Black Tie Dinner & Auction

On Thursday morning 25th March at John Andrew Mazda’s car sales forecourt on the corner Newton and Great North Rd, Auckland there was a hive of activity with a 40m x 10m marquee installation being completed and an endless stream of trucks and vans delivering flooring, tables, chairs and all that was required for a magnificent Silver Service Black Tie Dinner and Auction. With Dawson’s, a renowned catering company, project managing the event, it wasn’t long before some sort of order was in place. With sales personnel moving from their desks as one of the showrooms was taken over by the caterers moving in with ovens and equipment capable of catering for over 230 guests.

From early morning Companions arrived working to meet the evening deadline. They also were groomed in what was required in table settings, waiting and bar duties for the night.

On arriving 6.30pm that evening guests were welcomed by the CQ Companion Car Valet Parking Attendants'. After issuing a receipt they whisked the cars to a safe storage area.

Champagne and canapés were served in an adjacent showroom before being called to dinner.  On entering this magnificent dining hall with large TV monitors all around the room showing slides of our CQ Campers at play, set the scene for what was to be a wonderful night. With dinner served, the auction began and it was pleasing to hear the competitive bidding taking place with donated items reaching the advertised value or greater.

Camp Quality Auckland/Northland takes this opportunity to sincerely thank the management of John Andrew Mazda and its staff for arranging the night and putting-up with the business disruption over three days.  To the companies who donated goods and services for the auction, a huge thanks. The support we received during the evening, by you all, was overwhelming. The evening raised in excess of $50,000.

To our Companions, immaculately attired, wearing the CQ uniform, how proud you made us feel in the professional way you looked and performed your evening duties. There were so many positive remarks made.

A Great Night for Camp Quality

Wellington/Central Districts joined the celebrations with their own very special "mini camp" day recently.  It was a chance for campers, companions and staff, past and present, to get together again, catching up on some old friends and making some new ones too.  There was lots of awesome activities, including bouncy castles, a birthday cake, live band, vintage and classic car rides, motorbike rides (thanks Central Districts Hogs), painting and plaster craft, kite making, a yummy lunch, and a special helicopter visit from Tararua Heliwork Ltd  all squeezed into an action-packed day.

The fun didn't stop there, as after a great day, it was topped off with a fabulous dinner, along with some special thanks and a time to reminisce, entertainment courtesy of The Improvisors, and music from The Missing Link.

A special thanks to Toyota New Zealand for their generosity towards our event and to Lewis and the friendly team from Awapuni Racecourse & Creative Catering for providing such a fantastic venue.
